Name Change Procedure for Educational Certificates

The procedure encompasses five key steps:

Affidavit Submission Process

To initiate a name change, the first step involves creating an affidavit for the name change, and this can be accomplished with the assistance of a local notary. The affidavit should clearly articulate the reasons behind the desired name change. For instance, individuals may seek a legal name change after marriage, adopting a new name, or for reasons such as simplifying a name that is overly long or challenging to pronounce.

Newspaper Advertisement:

Following the correction process, it is essential to publish the name change in a minimum of two local newspapers. One publication should be in an English daily, while the other should be in a regional journal. This step ensures that your updated name is widely known through the press. It is advisable to retain copies of the newspapers for future reference.

Publication in the Gazette

After the necessary corrections are made, it is essential to have the updated information published in the official gazette of your residing state. This involves completing the name change form provided by the gazette office and obtaining duplicate copies. Verification

Now, it's time for your documents to undergo verification by the Department of Commerce and the Transport Secretary. To initiate this process, you are required to submit your documents.

Compose a letter addressed to the secretary expressing your intention to change your name. Kindly request permission for the name change.

Complete the name-changing deed form as part of the process.

Provide at least two copies of the local newspaper where your name change has been published.

Include an attested copy of the affidavit supporting the name change.

Attach a copy of your current identification, such as a PAN card, voter ID card, passport, etc.

Approval

Once the secretary approves your request, proceed to submit it to the local gazette office through the following link: https://egazette.nic.in/. Additionally, you will be required to pay a fee for the publication of the approved request in the newspaper.

After officially changing your name, you can now notify the educational institution about the updated information. It is recommended to visit the college administration office in person.
